Folklife Primary Sources Repository

The Folklife Primary Sources Repository hosts a collection of primary source materials generated by folklorists, ethnomusicologists, oral historians and others conducting ethnographic research in the United States.

These resources have been made avaialble by Local Learning and its partners for use by educators interested in incorporating them in teaching.

The materials in the database include audio excerpts, photographs and text exploring occupational culture and community experience across the country.

Local Learning created Folksources with support of the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Program.

Harmful Langauge Statement

Materials in archives may contain historical language and content considered offensive or potentially harmful by today's standards, including the depiction of racist or hateful attitudes toward marginalized communities, and the use of terms that are outdated, insensitive or offensive. The Folk Sources partners openly reject these biased views, which do not reflect our the views and values. However, we recognize that these viewpoints do illustrate social mindsets and perspectives of their time and, as such, cannot be erased when providing a truthful history of who we are.
